College of Marin

Conversation Partners Program

The Conversation Partners Program matches students, staff, and faculty members at College of Marin who are native speakers of English with international students for language and cultural exchange. During an entire semester partners meet weekly, biweekly, or monthly for about an hour to practice conversational English and/or another language. Typically, the time is divided equally to allow exchange in both languages.

This program is developed by the International Society Club in collaboration with the Office of International Education.

    Benefits to English-speaking volunteers include:
    • Learning about another culture or more about one’s own cultural heritage.
    • Preparing for a semester abroad or an overseas experience.
    • Offering friendship to a person from another culture / Creating an international network.
    • Practicing / maintaining foreign language skills.

Benefits to non-native English speakers include:
    • Practicing English one-on-one.
    • Making an American friend.
